One of the themes I return to in my art is skeletons.
Like the Toltecs, I like to meditate on the truth that death is always over our left shoulder.
“Momento Mori” could be an alternate title for this piece.
When we remember consistently that we will die, our life is sweeter.
We become more present. We enter into a state of wonder. We may even accept that we, too, are miraculous.
The undulating lines give a feeling of vertigo or falling. The abyss of consciousness may either be an existential threat or a comforting feeling of one-ness.
There is a choice here. Even while we draw breath, our perspective on death informs our state of being and life.
